Ear stretching. Part II
Fresh Stretches :
There are as many techniques to cure fresh stretches as there are folk stretching, but there are some methods that are noticeably more agreed on than others - these will be debated here.
Sea Salt Soaks : Sea salt soaks are the 1 most significant and neatest thing that you can do to cure a fresh stretch. To perform a sea salt soak, first melt 1 small spoon of sea salt ( available at most grocers stores ) in one cup ( 8 oz. ) of warm ( barely cooler than shower temperature ) water - preferably deionized or distilled water, but tap water will do.
Then submerge your ear in the solution for 10-15 mins. This may be done 2-3 times each day & eases your piercing while drawing out impurities from your piercing, thus permitting it to fix quicker.
Note : don’t go overboard on the salt - too much salt is intensely bad for your piercing.
Dr. Bronner’s Soaps : Dr. Bronner’s soaps are widely said to be the best quality soaps available to worry for your fresh stretch. They’re easy on the skin and regenerate your piercing, permitting it to cure more speedily. Dale has had great success with Dr. Bronner’s Tea Tree Oil soap.
Antibacterial / Anti-microbial Soaps : This is what most piercists advocate for a fresh piercing. Ensure that you are employing a light brand.
Satin & Provon are both top of the range delicate soaps that may serve you well. Dial & similar soaps, as well as products like Bactine should be steered clear of - they’re just too robust.
Healed Piercings :
by miles the 2 most crucial things that you can do for healed lobes are oil massages and relaxing your lobes. Relaxing your lobes is explained above. For massaging your lobes, the 2 preferred types of oil to use are jojoba oil and Vitamin E oil. Jojoba oil is good as it is an intensely close match to the oil that your body naturally secretes, and it thus far less likely to annoy your skin. Vitamin E oil also has a very beneficial effect, as it breaks down scar tissue. In stretching, scar tissue is the enemy, making future stretches much harder and making your lobes less pliant. By doing Vitamin E oil massages, you help enable the breakdown of any scar tissue which has formed and keep your ears as fit as possible.
Another benefit to grease massages is that it helps to promote blood flow through your lobes, thickening them up ( frequently significantly ) over a period of time.
What’s this gunk on my jewelry?
I presumed my ears were healed… If your ears are healed and you have some funky suff on your jewelry when you take it out, this is most likely dead epidermis cells. Your complete body sheds dead epidermis cells as it grows new skin, you simply don’t see it ( guess what a good part of the dust in your home is ). As there’s a signifigant quantity of skin touching your plug, those dead epidermis cells do not have anywhere to go, so they build up on your jewelry. This effect and the smell that goes with it varies from individual to individual and from material to material, with metals typically appearing worse than other materials, like organics. See the materials section for more info.
After stretching my lobes are extraordinarily sore / bleeding - HELP!
If you’re experiencing any of these issues, then you have stretched your lobes too fast. Sadly , this suggests that you’re going to backtrack to cure your lobes before you can consider stretching again. Downsize your jewelry to at least your prior size ( if not further ) and treat your ears as if they’re a fresh piercing or fresh stretch ( refer to info above ). When you think that your ears are fully healed, wait another 2 weeks and begin doing vitamin e oil massages for no less than another month before stretching. Correctly healing your piercing after a damaging stretch should take 2-4 months to be safe.
I believe I have a blowout! What precisely is this and what does one do about it?
A blowout takes place when one stretches too quickly. These sometimes occur during or instantly proceeding ( inside 48hrs ) a stretch. A blowout happens when the strain on the guts of the piercing is too great, and the hole deforms itself by twisting inside out, leading to the “blowout,” or section of tissue that appears as a flap on ( often ) the backside of the piercing. There are a couple of things you can do to try to recover from a blowout. First a foremost, you have to downsize straight away.
Being mulish and not taking this action might result in the blowout healing, which always requires surgery to mend. Second of all, the piercing fully must be treated just like a brand spanking new piercing. This implies spiritual sea salt soaks and aftercare. Blowouts go side by side with tears, and most blowouts result in at least minimum tears to the lobe, so that the aftercare becomes particularly critical.
Materials :
What materials are acceptable for fresh stretches?
Titanium, Niobium, 316L or 316LVM implant grade surgical chrome steel ( sss ), Glass, implant grade PTFE ( Teflon ) advantages of certain materials ( organics & glass ) : There are certain materials that offer something additional to the individual that is stretching their ears because they offer further properties which make them more exciting. Glass is fashionable, as it is a special material called a ’super-cooled liquid’. This implies that there’s far less chance for any edges, and therefore the surface is super-smooth. Glass is also hypo-allergenic, which is a great advantage for folks who have skin that’s awfully sensitive. The other group of materials that have something special to offer is organics.
We are both private promoters of organics in healed piercings. Many have revealed that the body has a tendency to accept them well, regularly leading to increased comfort and reduced quantity of smell and ‘ear cheese’ being given off.
Risks of acrylic / wrong materials :
a whole book might be written on the risks of acrylic and other unacceptable materials being employed as long term body jewelry. There are numerous different sorts of NOVELTY jewelry that are produced out of a wide selection of materials. This jewelry is precisely what is asserts : a novelty. There isn’t any significant danger in wearing them for a short while, but they shouldn’t be the first jewelry worn as they aren’t of the same top of the range as the other materials available. Acrylic is a permeable substance and its use can cause infection. It also starts to react with your skin over time - breaking down tissue and releasing damaging chemicals / smoke to be soaked up by your skin.
